4 ~~ <br />MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />January 14, 1975 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, January 14, 1975, <br />at 8 P.M, in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North <br />Carolina. <br />Members Present: Chairman Flora Garrett, Commissioners Norm Gustaveson, <br />Jan Pinney, Norman Walker, and Richard E. Whitted. - <br />Members Absent: None. <br />S. M. Gattis, County Administrator, Neal Evans, Fiscal Officer, A. B. Coleman, -. <br />Jr., County Attorney, and Betty June Hayes, Clerk to the Board were also present. <br />Max Kennedy and Frank Miller, of the Recreational Study Committee, were also <br />present. <br />The purpose of bhis meeting was to review the proposed Ordinance relating <br />to Public Recreation & Parks. <br />Discussion ensued between the Board and the Members of the Recreational <br />Study Committee. <br />Chairman Garrett stated she felt that the matter of the use of tax monies <br />for the establishment of a Recreational Program should be investigated. <br />The County Attorney was requested to check the validity of the tax matter. <br />CoQnnissioner Richard Whitted recommended that the matter of the proposed <br />Recreation Ordinance be placed on the Agenda for the next meeting and that the . <br />Board appoint a committee to investigate the funding. <br />Commissioner Norman Walker stated he felt all further discussion should <br />await the requested report from the County Attorney. It was agreed that the <br />matter would be placed on the Agenda for Tuesday, January 21, 1975. <br />The matter of the Seven (7) Mile Creek Reservoir was raised by the Board. <br />S. M. Gattis, County Administrator, stated that the proposed Seven (7) Mile <br />Creek Reservoir resulted from the P-50 Study of the Research Triangle Region and <br />that this study provided a list of priorities for sites for the impoundment of <br />water. .The seven (7) mile creek area was shown to be a prime site and the County i <br />embarked on limited plans for land acquisition on a long range program for the <br />eventual Reservoir installation. <br />Mr. Gattis advised the Board that little had been. done in the past few years <br />concerning land acquisitions. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again on Thursday, January 16, 1975, with representatives from <br />the Towns of Carrboro and .Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina. <br />Flora Garrett, Chairman <br />Betty June Hayes, Clerk <br />Approved <br />The January 16, 1975 meeting was a special meeting with representatives <br />from the Towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina. <br />
