<br />MINUTES of T~ oRANaE coUNTY ~ ;,~L <br />aoAxn o~ corrnrxssloxERS 46 i <br />ruly 3, 1972 . <br />The Board oP Commissioners of Orange County met in regular session in <br />the Board Room of the Social Services Building an Monday, Julp 3, 1972, at <br />10 o+clock A. M. <br />Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commi.asionera Wi111am <br />C. Ray, Henry S. Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker. <br />Members Absent: None - <br />In the absence of the Clerk the County Admitaiatrator acted as Clerk to <br />the Board. <br />It was moved and adopted that the Board dispense with the reading of <br />the minutes of the previous meetings. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner Henry <br />S. Walker, the Po11ow.Lng Interim Appropriation Resolution was unanimously <br />adopted: <br />"That to each fund receiving Covnty appropriations for the <br />1972-1973 fiscal year a sum equal to 1/12 of its total appropriation <br />for the coming year now be appropriated in order that these funds may <br />be operated until the County budget is adopted. <br />In addition to these apprapriationa an appropriation of $227,500 <br />be made to the School Capital Outlay fund, This appropriation shall <br />be earmarked for the Chapel Hill School Unit to be used only for the <br />completion of the Is~heaus Road School. These Puada are provided to <br />replace those funds withdrawn by resolution oP the Board of Commissioners <br />at their last maetxng. These funds are to ba considered as part of <br />the interim appropriations resolution and will like all other Funds <br />provided by this resolution, be deducted from the total appropriation <br />to be provided by the Board of County Commissioners at the time they <br />finally adopt a budget for the 1972-1973 Pisoal year." <br />I <br />i <br />The following letter from Crravelly Hi11 Homemakers Club was read by <br />Chairman Bennett: <br />"Our organization wishes to re»affirm our support far the <br />~~ Orange County Commissioners in their efforts to obtain a sanitary <br />landfill for Orange County. <br />Disposal of waste in the County is a serious public health ~ <br />problem in urgent need of a solution. We realize some of the <br />difficulties you are encountering in establishing a eenitary <br />landfill and appreciate your work in this direction." ~~ <br />The following road petitions were approved and the Clerk was direoted ~ <br />to Forward same to the State Highway Commission: SR #1306, SR #1508, Ronda ~ <br />in Forrest Park Subdivision and roads in Northern Heights Subdivision., ~ <br />Commissioner Ira A. Ward requested that the Clerk write to the State <br />Highway Commission concerning secondary road numbers 1338 and 1954. Commissioner'" j <br />Ward stated that it was hie underataading that the portion oP 3R 1954 which <br />lies in Chatham County had been scheduled for paving and if the Orange County <br />portion could be paved it would create a desirable. highway. I <br />Plata for W1111am Staley and Betty J. Bordeaux were presented by the <br />Zoning Officer for the approval oP the Board. Chairman Bennett was authorized <br />to sign said certificate oP approval. <br />The Board designated Monday, July 31, 1972, at 7:30 P.M. in the Courtroom ;I <br />as the date, time and place oP a public hearing is conjunotion with the <br />members oP the County Planning Board. <br />Chairman Sennett presented a letter from Bert 7. Kednoaker. Said letter <br />stated that the use of sirens wee a public nuaiance and he requested the Board <br />to contact s11 ambulance operators and request that sirens be used only in ' <br />cease of emergency. The Clerk was direoted to forward a copy of Mr. gednocker+s <br />letter to the Southern Orange Rescue Squad and the Chapel Hill Funeral Home. <br />i <br />_ A. B. Coleman, Jr., Attorney, was present to disauas the possibilities of { <br />the County releasing an old age assistance lien against the property of Mra. <br />Lillie R31ay. Chairman Bennett advised Mr. Coleman to submit, in writing, <br />the details of his request in order that the Board might refer the matter to <br />the County Attorney. <br /> <br />
