<br />P4INOTES OF THE ORANGE COUTdTY / .; - ~;~;; <br />BOARD OF COMMTSSTONE~RS <br />April L~, 1972 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in regular session <br />on Tuesday, April 1~, 1972, at 10:00 o'clock A.M. in the Commissioners Room of <br />the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Members Present: Chairman Rarvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners William C. <br />Ray, Henry s. ldalker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker. <br />Members Absent: None <br />Chairman Sennett dispensed with the reading of the minutes in order to <br />recognize the representatives of the orange County Rural Fire Department. <br />Chandler Cates; Chief of the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Department, <br />stated that the citizens of the Efland co*m++++~itq would present a petition <br />to be included in the forthcoming Fire Protection Election and that if said <br />election was adopted then there would arise the need for the changing of the <br />boundarq lines between the Efland District and the Hillsborough District. <br />Mr. Cates stated that the Commissioners had the authority to adjust the <br />boundaries of each proposed fire district. A question and answer period <br />ensued as to any boundary change. <br />The following petition was filed: <br />"PETITION FOR RURAL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT AS PROVIDID BY <br />(}ENE,'~AL STATDTES 69-25.1 <br />We, the undersigned, being resident freeholders living within <br />the hereinafter area which lies outside the corporate limits of any <br />city or town, which area is designated as "Efland Rural Fire <br />Department District", da herebq petition the Board of Commissioners <br />of Orange Countq to.oall an eleotion in said district for the <br />purpose of submitting to the qualified voters therein the question <br />of levying and collecting a special tax on all taxable property in <br />said district, not axaeeding fifteen amts (15¢) of the one hundred i <br />dollars ($100.00) valuation of property, Por the purpose of providing <br />fire protection in said district, the deacrintion of said district <br />is as follows: <br />BEGINNING at a point in the Alamance County line where <br />-- the same is intersected bq state Road 131+0, running <br />thence in a Southeasterly direction along State Road I <br />13L~.0 to its intersection with state Road 131}7, thence I <br />along State Road 13l}7 to its intersection with State <br />Road 1313; thence with State Road 13L~3 in a Northwesterly <br />direction to its intersection with State Road 1351; <br />thence with State Road 1351 to its intersection with <br />State Road 1001}; thence with state Road 1001 in a Southerly ' <br />direction to its intersection with U. S. Highway 70; i <br />thence with Highway 70 '.deaf to its intersection with State <br />Road 1316; thence along said State Road 1316 in a Southerly <br />direction to its end near Tnteratate I-85; thence crossing ~ <br />I-85 in a Southerly direction to State Road 1377;~thence <br />along State Road 1377 to State Road 171iJ~ (Old No. 1D); <br />thence with State Road 111}1;. in an Esaterlq direction to a <br />point where said road crosses the Eho River; thence down <br />Eno River in a Southerly direction to its interseotion with <br />Seven Mile Creek; thence in a Westerly direction with Seven <br />Mile Creek as it meanders to a point where said Creek is <br />crossed by State Road 1120; thence with State Road 1120 in a <br />Southerly direction to its intersection with State Road 7.12$; <br />thence with State Road 1125 in a Southerly direction to its <br />intersection with State Road 111!}; thence with State Road 117.1r <br />South to its intersection with State Road 1115; thence with <br />State Road 1115 to its intersection with State Road 1118; <br />thence with State Road 1118 in a Northwesterly direction to its <br />intersection with State Road 1117; thence with State Road 1117 <br />in a Northwesterly direotion to its intersection with State <br />Road 1007; thence with State Road 1007 in a Northerly direction <br />to its intersection with the Alamanae Countq line; thence with <br />the Alamance Countq line to the place sad point of beginning. <br />THERE IS EXCEPTID from the area described so much thereof as <br />lies within the corporate limits of the Town of Mebane. <br />
