<br />T4inutes of the previous meetings were read and approved after some
<br />corrections,
<br />Chairman Bennett recognized John L, line, Jr „ President of the Idew Tiope
<br />Improvement Association, T•x. Tiline stated that at a meeting of the association
<br />a petition in opposition to the Town of Chanel Hill extending its current zoning
<br />authority beyond the present limits be reported to the 3oard, Said petition
<br />requests that the area be left under. the jurisdiction of t'r_a Crange County
<br />Planning 3oard,
<br />i~x, Y.line presented a latter from the Tdew Hope 2-rmro~rement Association
<br />which requested the 3oard of Commissioners to call for a ,ire District
<br />Tax ~,lection, Discussion ensued as to ther_lans already underraay for the i
<br />establisT+slent of fire protection in the Tdew Hnpe area.

<br />S, udallter, it tras movsd that tee Board proceed faith the necessary legal
<br />enactmer_t for the callinb of the .dew Ho»e rite District Mention. Discussion
<br />ensued.
<br />Commissioner Henry S. T+dalker stated that the Bno Fire Department and
<br />possibly that other areas should be given the opportunity to be included in any
<br />election that was called for the purpose of establisri ng fire districts.
<br />Commissioner Ira A, Ward stated that perhaps the 3oard should consult
<br />*aith Marshall Cates, Chairman of the BoardJof ~.satior_s, as to the appropriate
<br />date for calling said election.
<br />Chairman Bennett reported that ,.,,r. Flowers who is Assistant Chief of the
<br />?;'no Fire District, frill arrange a meeting to see if that district wishes to be
<br />included in the special election.
<br />I.srion Clark, Secretar~* of the Orange Rural Fire Department, reported to
<br />the Board tr.e eativity arising from meetings which had been held throughout
<br />the county relative to fire protection areas.
<br />Chandler Cates, Chief of the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Department,
<br />stated that if fire protection districts were not established by an election
<br />than he would like for the County to assist in the collection of pledges.
<br />Mr, Cates was advised that the County.had no legal authority to collect
<br />money of this nature.
<br />Chairman Bennett read the follotaing petition:
<br />"iJ®, the undersigned, petition the Crange County Board of
<br />Commissioners to reject the proposal that the zoning authority of the
<br />Town of Cha±~el Hill he extended beyond the present limits, Tha
<br />undersigned are satisfied with the past performance of the Orange County
<br />Zoning Board and sinoerel~* bolieve that their cor_tinuad jurisdiction
<br />Trill better serve the citizens of Orange County.
<br />All of the ur_deraigned. are residents of Orange County."
<br />The petition had been signed by approximately two hundred and forty (2!}0)
<br />citizens.
<br />Chairmen Bennett recognized C, D, Jones, the County~s representative or_ '
<br />the Research Triangle Regional Planning Commission. T•Ir, Jones presented ~
<br />each member of the Board a cony of a book entitled "Economs Indicators."
