1 <br /> APPROVED 5/5/26 <br /> MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> WORK SESSION <br /> April 14, 2026 <br /> 7:00 p.m. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Work Session on Tuesday,April 14, 2026, at 7:00 <br /> p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, NC. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jean Hamilton,Vice-Chair Amy Fowler, and Commissioners <br /> Jamezetta Bedford, Marilyn Carter, Earl McKee, and Phyllis Portie-Ascott <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Sally Greene <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Deputy County Manager Caitlin Fenhagen, <br /> and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified appropriately below) <br /> Chair Hamilton called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present, except <br /> for Commissioner Greene. <br /> A motion was made by Vice-Chair Fowler,seconded by Commissioner Carter,to suspend the Rules <br /> of Procedure to consider approval of a resolution opposing modifications to county property tax authority. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Portie-Ascott, seconded by Commissioner McKee, to <br /> opposing modifications to county property tax authority and authorize the Chair to sign. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 1. Durham Tech Presentation <br /> The Board received a presentation on various topics related to Durham Technical Community College. <br /> BACKGROUND: Durham Technical Community College President JB Buxton will provide a presentation to <br /> the Board on various topics including some College goals, the outlook for the future, the Orange County <br /> K-12 Partnerships, County-supported Workforce initiatives, and the Orange County Campus <br /> addition/renovation project. <br /> JB Buxton made the following presentation: <br />
