1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: May 5, 2026 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-g <br /> SUBJECT: Professional Clerks to the Boards of County Commissioners' Week <br /> Proclamation <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Manager <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proclamation Travis Myren, 919-245-2300 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a proclamation designating May 3-9, 2026 as Professional Clerks to the <br /> Boards of County Commissioners' Week in Orange County. <br /> BACKGROUND: The annual Professional Municipal Clerks Week was initiated in 1969 by the <br /> International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) and is endorsed by all of its members throughout <br /> the United States, Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Bulgaria, Canada, England, Italy, the <br /> Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, and Wales. In 1984 and in 1994, Presidents Ronald <br /> Reagan and Bill Clinton, respectively, signed a Proclamation officially declaring Professional <br /> Municipal Clerks Week the first full week of May and recognizing the essential role Municipal <br /> Clerks play in local government. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the <br /> proclamation. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports: <br /> • GUIDING PRINCIPLE — COMMUNICATION AND AWARENESS <br /> We provide information and opportunities for engagement in a transparent manner so that <br /> all in our community have knowledge, understanding, and a voice. <br /> • GUIDING PRINCIPLE — INCLUSIVITY AND ENGAGEMENT <br /> We foster an environment in which all are welcomed, represented, and empowered to <br /> participate in and feel connected to their community. <br /> • GUIDING PRINCIPLE — DEDICATION AND RESPECT <br /> We commit to our roles in public service and organizational excellence by fostering the <br /> skills, talents, and innovation of our residents, employees, volunteers, and boards needed <br /> to carry out this work. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proclamation <br /> and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />
