1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: April 21, 2026 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-f <br /> SUBJECT: Approval of Senior Lunch Caterer Contract Extension <br /> DEPARTMENT: AGING <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Contract Extension Janice Tyler, 919-245-4255 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a food service caterer contract one-year extension to provide noon meals <br /> for the Home and Community Care Block Grant-funded Senior Lunch Program at the Seymour <br /> and Passmore Centers for the period July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Department on Aging's Lunch program provides a <br /> nutritious noon meal to persons age 60+. A request for proposals (RFP) was issued by Orange <br /> County Purchasing in April 2024 for a caterer to provide the meals for July 1, 2024 through June <br /> 30, 2026, with an option for a one year renewal. The bid selected was from Beau Catering. The <br /> cost per meal will continue at the rate of$8.00 per meal. With this contract the total cost of meals <br /> purchased will not exceed $250,000 annually. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: Most of the cost for the Senior Lunch Program is reimbursed by the North <br /> Carolina Division of Aging. The balance of the funding is provided by Orange County and the <br /> Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. These funds are included in the FY 2026-27 operating budget. <br /> Cost share donations are also collected from the participants. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports: <br /> • GOAL 2: HEALTHY COMMUNITY <br /> OBJECTIVE 8. Invest in services and programs that improve the health and quality of life <br /> of the community. <br /> The purpose of this program is to provide a nutritious noon meal to persons age 60+, targeting <br /> those individuals who are in the greatest social and economic need. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> County Manager to sign the catering services contract extension and any other amendments <br /> following approval and review by the County Attorney. <br />
