1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: November 6, 2025 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 11-a <br /> SUBJECT: Orange County Broadband Task Force — Appointments Discussion <br /> DEPARTMENT: Clerk's Office <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Members and Applicants Summary Sheet Clerk's Office, 919-245-2130 <br /> Applications of Applicants <br /> Membership Roster <br /> Applicant Interest List <br /> PURPOSE: To discuss and approve appointments to the Orange County Broadband Task Force. <br /> BACKGROUND: At the October 7, 2025 Business Meeting, the Board of County Commissioners <br /> (BOCC) amended the charge of the Orange County Broadband Task Force (the Task Force), <br /> appointed two (2) Commissioners, and re-appointed two (2) Orange County Resident - At-Large <br /> members. The BOCC also directed the Clerk to advertise the remaining three (3) Orange County <br /> Resident - At-Large positions, with an application deadline of October 26, 2025. <br /> The updated charge of the Task Force is: <br /> 1. To discuss broadband solutions that will improve the quality of high-speed internet services <br /> to Orange County residents, and <br /> 2. To recommend a plan to the Board of Orange County Commissioners to expand reliable <br /> high-speed internet services to all County residents and businesses. <br /> 3. To update and track broadband coverage needs as State and Federal program awards are <br /> made. <br /> 4. To consult with County staff on how to best communicate information related to broadband <br /> coverage to all residents. <br /> The full composition of the Task Force includes: <br /> • County Manager • Durham Technical Community College <br /> • Orange County Chief Information Officer Representative <br /> • Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools • Two (2) Commissioners <br /> Superintendent Designee • Five (5) Orange County Residents -- At- <br /> • Orange County Schools Superintendent Large <br /> Designee <br /> All positions have been filled except three (3) of the Orange County Resident—At-Large positions. <br />
