1 <br /> APPROVED 10/21/25 <br /> MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> BUSINESS MEETING <br /> September 16, 2025 <br /> 7:00 p.m. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, September <br /> 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, NC. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Jean Hamilton <br /> and Commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Earl McKee, and Phyllis Portie- <br /> Ascott <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT. John Roberts <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Deputy County Manager Caitlin <br /> Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> appropriately below) <br /> Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present. <br /> 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> Vice-Chair Hamilton made a motion to defer item 7-a to another meeting as an information <br /> item. Chair Bedford seconded the motion. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Chair Bedford read the public charge. She gave instructions for making public comments. <br /> 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> Laura Streitfeld spoke on county communications. She suggested including more <br /> information in the county newsletter on county meetings. She asked that residents receive better <br /> map information when considering issues that affect the community. She asked that the county <br /> convene strategic communications workgroup and invite stakeholders to attend. She asked for <br /> the strategic communications plan to be updated She said asked for the county to consider adding <br /> a way for people to make public comments by email or to participate virtually. She asked that the <br /> county streamline web menus and include links in meeting agendas to make it easier to find <br /> information. She asked that the county locate resources, plans, and documents on the county <br /> website rather that consultant sites, particularly the land use plan. <br /> b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> Commissioner McKee thanked everyone in attendance. He said he participated in an <br /> open house at the Mason's Lodge in Hillsborough. He said it was the 200th anniversary of their <br /> building in Hillsborough. He said also attended the 264' anniversary of Little River Presbyterian <br /> Church in Caldwell. He said he spoke at a birthday celebration at the Passmore Center, and one <br /> of the residents, Cora Coleman, turned 100. He noted the many events she has witnessed in her <br />
