1 <br /> APPROVED 8126/25 <br /> MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> BUDGET WORK SESSION <br /> May 27, 2025 <br /> 7:00 p.m. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Budget Work Session on Tuesday, May <br /> 27, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Jean Hamilton, <br /> and Commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Earl McKee, and Phyllis Portie- <br /> Ascott <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: None. <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Deputy County Manager Caitlin <br /> Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> appropriately below.) <br /> Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present. <br /> The Board reviewed and discussed FY 2025-26 recommended departmental budgets. <br /> BACKGROUND: The County Manager presented the FY 2025-26 Recommended Operating <br /> Budget at the Board's May 6, 2025 Business meeting. Since then, the Board has conducted one <br /> public hearing on May 13, 2025 to receive residents' comments regarding the proposed funding <br /> plan. At its May 15, 2025 budget work session, the Board discussed recommended FY 2025-26 <br /> Outside Agencies funding and recommended budgets for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools <br /> Board of Education, Orange County Schools Board of Education and Durham Tech Community <br /> College. At its May 22, 2025 budget work session, the Board discussed the recommended FY <br /> 2025-26 budgets for the Fire Districts, as well as departments in the Human Services and Public <br /> Safety functions. <br /> Tonight's work session offers the Board an opportunity to review and discuss the recommended <br /> budgets directly with County departments and the Sportsplex within the structure of Functional <br /> Leadership Teams, including operations, capital, and department fee schedule change <br /> recommendations. <br /> Functional Leadership Teams: <br /> The following Functional Leadership Teams are scheduled to attend tonight's work session: <br /> Public Safety: <br /> • Sheriff <br /> • Emergency Services <br /> Human Services: <br /> • Social Services <br /> Support Services: <br /> • Asset Management Services <br />
