C-51 <br /> April 2025 Minutes <br /> �14 Monday, April 14 1 6:30pm <br /> ©RANGEC©UNTY <br /> ARTS COMMISSr©N The ArtsCenter <br /> Attendees: Crystal Wu, Chair,Wendy Smith, Katie Murray, Celia Gibbs, Denise Duffy, vice chair, Heather <br /> Washburn, Linda Williamson, Sec., Josh Rosenstein, Renee Hayes, Lindsay Metivier, Krista Bremer, and <br /> Francesca Talenti,John Claude Bemis <br /> Absent:Alexa Velez, Gideon Young, <br /> Meeting Location:The ArtsCenter <br /> 1) Call to Order at 6:35pm by Crystal <br /> 2) Denise moved to approve the March 2025 Board Minutes with one correction and Cecila seconded. All <br /> approved. <br /> 3) Board updates <br /> a) UNC Student Liaison selection process discussion - discussed current process and suggestions for <br /> improvements. Process has worked well, but does depend on the current student recommending the next <br /> board member. The board would like the student term to be 2 years in the future. After discussion and <br /> consideration for the timing, it was recommended to have Cecila complete the same process for this coming <br /> year to recommend a senior. That person could then work with us in the Fall to develop an application <br /> process (simple)to roll out in January 2026 and target current sophomores. Francesca offered to work with <br /> the students on the new process. <br /> 4) Director's Report: Katie Murray <br /> a) Arts Day is next week in Raleigh on Tuesday 4/22.As a board member,we get a discount on registration - <br /> $150. <br /> b) The show in the gallery is one of the most important ones we've had. "Rekindling"-features art from <br /> incarcerated and previously incarcerated people. <br /> i) April 26th-3-5pm Rekindling poetry reading- some of the inmates will be reading their work.At 6pm, <br /> Dasan Ahanu is headlining a program with other poets. <br /> c) FY26 Budget requests - Katie reviewed her proposal for 2025/2026 budget. Budget amendments must be <br /> approved by BOCC at the next meeting. Arts funding comes from occupancy tax,which has been growing <br /> significantly vs other taxes. <br /> d) July 4 First Fridays - exhibit around people, places, and things around Orange County-"Focal Point Orange <br /> County" <br /> e) Uproar Update - committee has selected the art for the 2025 event and notices are going out tomorrow to <br /> artists. Public announcement by May 1 st and all sites confirmed by May 15th. A sponsorship campaign has <br /> started and goes through June 1st <br /> f) RFP: Rebrand (closes April 1)-37 applicants. A committee made up of folks from this board and the <br /> commission are reviewing the applicants with Katie. The top ones will be picked for interviews. Building <br /> towards, a 40th anniversary of the Arts Commission celebration/launch. <br /> g) Gift Shop is now open at the Eno Arts Mill with studio artists items and art from other Mill instructors. <br /> h) Katie had the board sign or resign the OCAC conflict of interest document. <br /> 5) Arts Educator Grant Review- Board discussed the four applicants for the grants. <br /> a) Denise made a motion that we approve for funding 3 of the applicants completely. One of the applicants <br /> was approved with the contingency that the applicant can provide Katie with necessary details on her <br /> request.Josh seconded the motion and board approved. <br />
