f. RFP Award: Graphic Design, Cartography and Production of a Map of
Bicycle Routes in Orange County
The Board considered awarding RFP's for Graphic Design and cartography to develop
a map of designated bicycle routes in Orange County to R+M, Inc. of Cary, North Carolina
(Graphic Design) at a total cost of $42,000 for 20,000 maps and Simpson Maps of Concord,
North Carolina (Cartography) for a total of $8,000; and authorizing the Purchasing Director to
execute the necessary paperwork.
Commissioner Gordon said that she sent an email on this to Karen Lincoln to say that
this map was drawn up in 2002 and it is not the same as the regional bike plan. She would like
to see an updated map but staff cannot get a copy of the map for various reasons.
Chair Jacobs agreed about seeing the map before voting on it.
Transportation Planner Karen Lincoln said that the basic work on the map was done in
2002, and since then staff has worked with DOT. There is a working map for the committee.
A copy of the working map will be provided to each Commissioner at the next agenda.
All agreed.
L Resolution Endorsing Taste of Hope Program
The Board considered a resolution endorsing and encouraging participation in the
Taste of Hope customer assistance program sponsored by the Orange Water and Sewer
Authority (OWASA) and the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service.
Chair Jacobs recognized the two OWASA representatives.
Fred Battle from OWASA said that this program is administered by the Inter-Faith
Council. This program helps people that cannot afford to pay for water and sewer to cover
their costs by donors. Interested donors can call or email the OWASA office. Interested
donors can also go to the Inter-Faith Council to sign up. He asked the County Commissioners
to consider endorsing this program.
Joy Pressler said that this is a difficult time for Orange County residents who live from
check to check. Only 5% of the customers participate in the Taste of Home program.
A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Foushee to
approve a resolution, which is incorporated by reference, endorsing and encouraging
participation in the Taste of Hope customer assistance program sponsored by the Orange
Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) and the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS
o.
