<br />_, . ~ PAGE ass <br />Chairman Bennett brought to the attention of the Board that there was a <br />vacancy on the Chapel Hill Board of Adjustments because of the resignation of <br />F'. W. Herigeveld. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Cgmmi.ssioner Henry <br />Walker, Ar. David McFarland of Dogwood Acres was appointed to fill the unexpired <br />term of F. W. Hengeveld on the Board of Adjustments. <br />Chairman Sennett recognized the County Administrator. Mr. Gattis called _ <br />attention to the copies of tax refund and releases which he had made for each <br />member of the Board. Mr. Gattis explained that the refund to Bessie Edwards of <br />591.95 had occurred because the tax map showed too much acreage and Mrs. Edwards <br />had been taxed in excess in the actual amount of land which she owned. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Norman Walker, seconded by Commissioner William <br />Ray, the Tax Supervisor was authorized to refund to Mrs. Bessie Minor Edwards <br />the sum of $91.95 which covered the taxable years of 1965-1969. <br />Mr. Gattis stated that Irvin Womble had been erroneously charged $11.00 <br />dog tax instead of the $2.00 fee which he had listed, therefore, Mr. Womble was <br />due a refund of $9.00. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Henry Walker, seconded by Commissioner Norman <br />Walker, the Tax Supervisor was authorized to refund 59.00 to Irvin Womble for <br />the error which had occurred on his tax bill. <br />Mr. Gattis explained that Coleman Dehymne Carter was requesting a refund of <br />$22.71 as it had been because the tax on the 1966 Volkswagen owned by his father <br />had been paid in Sampson County. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner William C. Ray, seconded by Commissioner <br />Norman Walker, the Tax Supervisor was authorized to refund $22.71 to Mr. Carter. <br />Mr. Gattis presented a request from Roger E. Johnsgnborough for a refund in <br />the amount of 567.00. This request was made on the basis that Mr. Johnsonborough, <br />who was a member of the Armed Forces, had been transferred by direct orders to <br />Chapel Hill and under the Soldiers and Sailors Military Act he was exempt from <br />the paying of local personal property tax. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner Henry Walker, <br />the Tax Supervisor was authorized to refund $67.00 to Roger E.
