Reports <br />a. Energy Conservation Update <br />The Board received updates on the Employee Energy Conservation Fair, scheduled for <br />November 2, 2007, and information on energy usage at several County buildings. <br />Assistant Public Works Director Wayne Fenton summarized this update in a report from <br />the team which is given below: <br />ORANGE COUNTY ENERGY CONSERVATION TEAM <br />Energy Task Group <br />In August 2005, former County Manager John Link and former Commissioner <br />Halkiotis called a meeting of select department heads to discuss the need for <br />energy conservation in Orange County government, and an approach to make it <br />happen. This group received the informal name of the Energy Task Group. The <br />group met intermittently during 2005 and 2006. <br />Conservation Policies <br />Conservation Policies for water, energy and fuel (gasoline and diesel) were <br />adopted by the board of County Commissioners in December 2005. Copies are <br />posted on the intranet at (http://server1.co.orange.nc.us/Energy/Epolicies.asp) <br />Memos in support of these activities were distributed <br />to department heads and County employees in February 2006. <br />Energy Conservation Team <br />The Energy Conservation Team was established in February 2006. Team <br />members work five hours per week in addition to their normal work week. The <br />mission of the Energy Conservation Team is to promote and encourage energy <br />conservation by County and court system employees and to assist in identifying <br />options for energy conserving infrastructure. <br />Employee Education/Outreach <br />Employee Presentations <br />Since its inception, the Energy Conservation Team has made presentations to all <br />new employee orientation meetings, and to several department head meetings, <br />employee consortium meetings, and Environmental Stewardship Action <br />Committee meetings. <br />Intranet <br />The team developed a suite of web pages on the County's intranet site to provide <br />information about conservation activities undertaken by the County as well as <br />links to external sites providing conservation tips and "how-to" information <br />(http://server1.co.orange.nc.us/Energy/index.asp). An energy telephone hotline has also been <br />established for employees to report problems or pose questions. To date, this line has not <br />been extensively used, but will be promoted at and following the Energy Conservation Fair. <br />
