<br />MINT]`!'ES OF THE ORANGE GOTTNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ~'~'i 7 PAGE 3~1 <br />February 8, 1871 <br />The Board o#' Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session in <br />the Commissioners Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina at <br />8 o~vlock P,M, on Monday, February 8, 1971. <br />Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett, and Commissioners William <br />C. Ray, Henry 5, Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker. <br />Members Absent: None <br />Also present were Quentin Patterson, U. 3, Soil Conservation Agent for <br />Orange County, Bi11 Thayer, Engineer on the staff oP the II. 3. Soil Conservation <br />Service and John Pridgen, Engineer, <br />This meeting was held for the purpose of discussing the preliminary <br />engin®ering survey and the general location of the dam site for the Seven Mile <br />Creek reservoir. <br />The Soil Conservation representatives stated that teat drillings vn the <br />upper site revealed few geologic problems would be encountered and that the <br />upper dam site and the lower dam site was Free of Faults. Mr, Pridgen <br />presented maps and reported on the topographic survey which his firm was <br />preparing. Disouasion ensued. ' <br />The Board instructed Mr. Pridgen to investigate thoroughly the possibility <br />of boating the dam at the lower site which is nearest highway T-85, however, I <br />there is not to be undertaken any sub surface drilling at this location until <br />the Board so authorizes. <br />Quentin Patterson. stated that there existed, several miles North oP Lake <br />Orange, an ideal site for .a wildlife Feeding area. He stated that his agency <br />was exploring the pcssibility of developing this site and that ha would <br />periodically be giving a progress report to the Board relative to the situati„ona ~ ~ <br />~y <br />There being no further business to coma before the Board the meeting was i <br />adjourned. <br />Harvey D. Gatti s, Acting Clerk <br />MINi7TES OF THE ORA.vGE COIINTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />February 22, 1971 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met at 5:30 o~clook P,M, <br />on Monday, February 22, 1871 at the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett and Commissioners Henry S, <br />Walker, Norman Walker and Ira A, Ward. <br />Members Absent: Commieaionar William C. Ray, <br />The Board approved a road petition for 1500 feet of SR 1831 to the secondary <br />system and directed the petition be sent on to the State Highway Department. <br />Ebert Pieroe, County Extension Chairman and Quentin Patterson, 3oi1 <br />Conservation District Agent were present to accompany the Board members to the <br />annual meeting of the Resources Conservation and Development Cemmisaion in <br />Reidsville, North Carolina. Principal speaker Por the occasion was Charles Bartlett, <br />State Soil Conservationist. At the conclusion of Mr, Bartlett~s presentation, <br />Robert Powell, Area Coordinator for the six counties Rasouroea Conservation and <br />Development Program presented a slide showing the projects of the District. <br />There being np further business to come before the Board the meeting was <br />adjourned. <br />Harvey D.
