In late 2007 however the EPA approved a request <br /> from the State to redesignate the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area to "attainment" and is now in <br /> a maintenance program to follow a State plan for maintaining the ozone standard through 2017. <br /> <br /> "...and expand bicycle and pedestrian facilities to targeted areas for both transportation and <br />106 9-20 48-49 recreational purposes." <br /> Transportation Overarching Goal: <br /> An efficient and balanced transportation system that sues uses multiple motorized and non- <br /> motorized modes of transportation and for which the planning design and implementation will be <br /> guided by the following overarching qualities: <br /> A Protects air quality water quality and quantity soil quality and biological resources <br /> B. Promotes public health and safety <br /> C Encourages sustainable economic development <br /> D. Provides equal access to all users <br />107 9-21 4-6 E. Is highly modally and inter-modally integrated and connected <br /> F. Fosters sustainable and efficient use of a#-kir~ls-e€ resources including financial and natural <br /> <br /> resources <br /> G. Protects the Count natural and cultural heritage <br /> H Uses creative and well-designed infrastructure <br /> I Is attractive user-friendly and easy to understand because of factors such as sianage, <br /> <br /> brochures, and web pages <br /> J.
