Transportation EIement <br />2 COUNTY-WIDE ROAD NETWORK <br />3 Orange County's road network is comprised of a hierarchy of roads <br />4 including intersfates, major US and NC hi_ghways, North Carolina <br />s Secondary Roads, and local roads that serve dififerent functions in <br />6 providing access to other regions and within Orange County. <br />s Interstate 40 and Interstate 85 are part of the Federal Interstate <br />9 Highway System and are the major corridors .that provide for <br />1o transport of people and goods through Orange County to other <br />11 regions, including employment centers in the Triangle Area (Durham, <br />12 Research Triangle Park and Raleigh) to the east and the Triad <br />13 (Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point) to the west. <br />14 <br />is Ma1ar US and NC routes linkin_g Orange County with surrounding <br />16 areas also provide infra-county access and linkage to the rural areas <br />17 of the County. US 70 is a major hi_ghwaY that provides east-west <br />18 access through Orange County, linkin_g the City of Durham in Durham <br />19 County, the Town of Hillsborough in Orange County and the Town of <br />20 Mebane in Alamance County. US 15 and US 501 provide north-south <br />21 access linking the City of Durham to the Towns of Chapel Hill and <br />22 Carrboro and the Town of Pittsboro in Chatham County. NC 86 <br />23 provides north-south access through Orange County from Caswell <br />24 County and links the Towns of Hillsborough and Chape! Hill. NC 57 <br />2s provides north-south access from Person County through Orange <br />26 County to the Town of Hillsborough.
