Chapter 9: Transportation .EIement <br /> <br />2 •., <br />^ <br />Long-Range Transportation Plan. The plan is a guide for major transportation <br />3 investments in the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning <br />4 Organization area. {t is designed to support land use and air quality goals for <br />5 the urban area, and is prepared in accordance with federal requirements. The <br />6 plan projects the amount and type of transportation demand over a 20-year <br />7 minimum period, and is updated every four Years t0 <br />8 demonstrate compliance with air quality standards. It <br />9 identifies priority highway, bus transit, rail transit, bicycle, and pedestrian <br />10 improvements needed to service future populations, and the projected costs of <br />11 these improvements.
