Smith, Chairman <br />Betty June Hayes, Clerk <br />M1'NOTES OF THE ORANGE COIINTY <br />BOARD OF COMMIS310NERB <br />November 9, 1970 <br />The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session at 8 o~clcak <br />P.M, on Monday, November 9, 1970, in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Members Present: Chairman Carl M. Smith and Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward. <br />Members Absent: None <br />~~r The following persona were 3n attendance: Quentin Patterson, District <br />Conaervationiat, David Dixon, Area Supervisor of the Conservation Department, <br />Bill Thayer, Project Engineer of the Conservation Department, Bill Powell, <br />Secretary of the Resource Conservation and Development Commission, John Pridgen <br />of the firm oP Pridgen and Freeman, C. W. Davis, Orange County~a representative <br />to the Resource Conservation and Development Commission and L. M. Cheshire, _ <br />County Attorney. <br />This meeting was held for the purpose of reviewing with the representatives <br />oP the IInited States Soil Conservation Service the proposed reservoir on Seven <br />Mile Creek. <br />The engineering data relative to the proposed reservoir aonstruation was <br />discussed. It was suggested that the Soil Conservation Service investigate the <br />feasibility of moving the proposed dam site further downstream. Mr. Powell <br />advised the Board that the Resource Conservation and Development Committee had <br />budgeted funds which this year would pay approximately sixteen percent (16~) oP <br />the coat for the Architectural and Engineering aontraat. Mr. Pridgen advised <br />the -Board that hie firm was in the position to sign this oontract if the County <br />was willing to proased, at this time, with letting oP this contraot. <br />Upon motion dP Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was <br />moved and adopted that the County execute the Architectural and Engineering <br />contract with the firm of Pridgen and l~eeman. ~' <br />Mr. Patterson suggested that the slop oe n the sediment atruoture for Lake <br />Orange be changed from 2:1 to l~:1. He stated that the estimated cost of this <br />alteration would be $1,18.00 and that the change in structural site would allow <br />the slope of the dam face td be mowed by a tractor. <br />IIpon motion of Commissioner Bennett, aeaonded by Commissioner Ward, it was <br />moved that the elope of the sediment atruatvre for Lake Orange be changed from <br />2:l to l~.:1. <br />There being no further business to aome before the Board the meeting was <br />adjourned. <br />Carl M.
