Services and facilities should be provided in a manner that reflects <br /> the__specific needs of the community, while taking into account its fiscal limitations. The role and <br /> res onsibilit of Oran a Count overnment is to ensure that a ro er balance is reached that will <br />48 8-1 9-10 maintain social equity and diversity and relies upon, supports, and promotes the wise use and <br /> reuse of natural and fiscal resources in all of its actions and programs. Although sustainability is <br /> discussed throughout this Plan, the concept of Sustainable Government is introduced and <br /> emphasized here to reflect that the relationship between Orange County government and the <br /> provision of services to the community is more than that of lust service provider and customer. <br /> <br />49 8-1 Sec. 8.2. Summary - Relist in alphabetical order <br /> Add bullet as follows: Animal Services -The Animal Services Department is responsible for <br />Animal Control and Animal Sheltering activities within Orange County. The Animal Control <br /> Division enforces State and County laws that apply to animals, including cruelty laws, nuisance <br />50 8-1 15 animals and dan Brous wildlife within the unincor orated ortion of Oran a Count and the Town <br /> of Hillsborough. Orange County's Animal Shelter is an open-door facility and operates both <br /> intake and adoption services. <br /> Add: The Durham Technical Community College, Orange County Campus, opened its doors for <br />51 8-2 10 continuing education and basic skills courses in May 2008, with curriculum courses starting Fall <br /> Semester 2008. <br /> <br />52 <br />8-3 <br />2 Services and Community Facilities Overarching Goal: Growth consistent with the provision of <br />adequate and sustainable County services and facilities while managing the impacts upon the <br />environmental infrastructure and effectively protecting the County's natural and cultural <br />resources. <br /> <br />11 /6/2008 7 of 13 <br />
