BOOK ~ ~ ,tE ~ <br />Chairman Smith inquired of the County Manager if an answer had bean received <br />from the Towns oP Chapel Hill and Carrboro relative to the financial partinipation <br />of these towns to the ambulance service. The County Manager replied that no <br />answer had been received from either town. <br />Chairman Smith read a letter from Richard Ih`aw, Attorney at Law, Durham, <br />North Carolina. Said letter advised the Board of sewerage problems which did exist <br />in Eno township and he requested that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />notify the Orange County Health Department tv take such steps as are necessary <br />to terminate this situation. <br />Chairman Smith reviewed the latter received from the State Highway Commission <br />relative to Rogers Road, Log Cabin Road, traffic light installation an Farrington <br />Road, railroad crossing signals on Homestead Road, traPPia light at intersection <br />of 86 and 70, Orange High School acoesa road, Chapel Hill High School road from <br />Eaten Drive F~ctenaion and Finey Mountain Road. <br />The clerk wsa inatruated to write a letter of appreciation to Mr. Clifton <br />Benson relative to North Carolina Highway SLR. East. <br />Road petitions were received Por SR 1551, 1126 and 1335. The clerk was <br />inatruated to forward same to the State Highway Commission. <br />Chairman Smith read a letter from Mrs. Anne Partin, North Carolina Civil Defense <br />Association. Said letter urged that all Civil Defense Directors join the United <br />States Civil Defence Council. The clerk was inatruated to Pile the letter with <br />Burch Compton and request that he denide if he wished to have Orange County join the <br />Defense Council. <br />Chairman Smith advised the Board that he had received from WFMY a queationaire <br />requesting that the ten problem priority items be listed. It wAa agreed that the <br />Board would answer said questionaire. <br />Chairman Smith read a letter from Dr. John C. Herrion. Said letter was in <br />reference to the Wolf's Pond Develornaent and Dr. Herrion called the Beards <br />attention to the fact that the traot of land fur said develoroment was located at <br />the headwaters. oP University Lake. Diacusaion ensued relative to this item <br />and the Board requested that Norman bong, Zoning Officer, reply to Dr. Harrion's <br />letter. <br />Upon motion oP Cotnmisaioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, Chairman <br />Smith was authorized to sign the following $lind Aid Agenda: <br />AID TO THE BLIND AGENDA <br />August ~, 1970 <br />NAMEr EFFEC. DATE AMOIINT REASON <br />Carrie Brown 8-1-70 1D5 to l7O To include $65 Por <br />attendant Dare <br />Thomas Breeze 9-1-70 73 to 75 To cost of dry cleaning <br />It was brought to the attention of the Beard that the County Planning Board <br />had received a recrueat from Ted Williams to re-zone between fifteen to twenty <br />acres of land in Chapel Hill Township from a residential area to a mobile home <br />park area. It was pointed out that this was the only request pending before the <br />County Planning Board and that a public hearing would not be sailed to review <br />this request until further requests were received. <br />Chairman Smith presented a letter of resignation Prom Robert V. Duke, Chairman <br />of the_Truatees of the South Orange Fire Protection Commisaiea. <br />~~ <br />Diacusaion ensued relative to Mayor Cates' proposal that the County assist <br />in the installation of a water line to the Colonial Hills area. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Cormnisaioner Walker, it was <br />moved that a $1.21 tax rate be levied and that the additional one sent be used <br />Por the purpose oP installing the twelve inch (12") water line to Colonial Hills. <br />Diacusaion ensued relative to this motion.
