As planned, this agenda item is to present to the Board the proposed new Assistant to <br />the Manager position for approval. <br />Workload Increases <br />The proposal for the new Assistant to the Manager position arises from the significant workload <br />increases that have occurred in the Manager's Office over the past several years. These <br />include: <br />The addition of new County departments, including Environment and Resource <br />Conservation, Human Rights and Relations, the Orange County Library and Chapel <br />Hill /Orange County Visitor Services. <br />2. The impending assumption by the County of overall responsibility for solid waste <br />management and the addition of a new Solid Waste Department. <br />3. The major increase in the numbers and complexity of agendas produced for Board of <br />Commissioners meetings each year. The original schedule for calendar year 1999 reflected <br />
