Summers, Health Director <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: - -eat. 2411 <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-45111 <br />Durham 688-7331 - <br />Mebane 227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To proclaim the month of October as "SENIOR VACCINATION SEASON" and <br />endorse activities planned during the month. <br />BACKGROUND: The Governor has proclaimed October as Senior Vaccinaton Season in North <br />Cazolina. The NC Department of Health and Human Services encourages local counties to plan <br />activities to educate the community about public health. The Calendar of Events provides a list of <br />some of the planned activities in Orange County. Health education, screening, outreach, and public <br />awazeness events aze scheduled. This yeaz the health department has developed a partnership with <br />Kerr Drug at University Ma11 in Chapel Hill. Kerr Drug is hosting the kick-off event on October 9 <br />and October 10. They will be providing pharmacists and pharmacy students both at the Mall and at <br />other events throughout the month far a "brown bag review" of medications that seniors are <br />currently taking. The health department's goal this yeaz is to vaccinate 4,000 seniors in Orange <br />County. <br />FINANCIAL Il~iPACT: The program is part of the approved 1999-2000 health department <br />budget. <br />RECOMMENDATON(S): The Manager recommends that the Boazd adopt the proclamation and <br />endorse the planned activities. <br />
