Recommendations/Action Plan <br />Based on the foregoing analysis of impediments affecting the furtherance of fair housing, <br />appropriate strategies have been designed and implemented to eliminate or reduce the impact of <br />said barriers. <br />Additionally, the following recommendations are offered to promote fair housing within this <br />jurisdiction: <br />1. Increase the educational opportunities relating to Fair Housing through workshops, <br />forums, and presentations; <br />2. Target specific protected classes (i.e. handicapped persons) for fair housing information; <br />3. Continue to consult with local lending institutions regarding their Community <br />Reinvestment Act activities. Monitoring of compliance with the local and federal fair <br />housing laws testing of local lending. institution is necessary to ensure equal access to <br />capital for all residents. Meetings should be held with local bank executives to formalize <br />participation in public-private partnerships that further housing opportunities that provide <br />for housing choices for all citizens. Further, public policy should be created to link <br />public deposits in financial institutions to a commitment by lenders to meet the <br />community reinvestments needs of the County. <br />4. Continue to provide one-on-one consultation to area landlords to encourage participation <br />in the Section 8 Program. <br />5. Involve the local housing coalition, ABODE, in all fair housing awareness activities. <br />6. Provide training to housing providers and consumers about their obligations and rights <br />under the act. Specifically, educate housing providers, consumers and private and public <br />agencies that assist consumers about the Department of Human Rights and Relations' <br />responsibility. for enforcement of the Act. Provide technical assistance training to <br />property managers, lenders attorneys, builders, etc., on their responsibilities under the <br />law. Educate citizens about their rights under the law; and (4) Educate public and non- <br />profit agencies on how to identify discriminatory practices. <br />7. Increase the educational opportunities relating to Fair Housing through workshops, <br />forums, and presentations. <br />8. Provide fair housing information to specific protected classes. <br />9. Collaborate with local housing coalitions, ABODE and others in fair housing awareness ~~ <br />activities. <br />10. Conduct training for public and non-profit agencies in Orange County on the fair housing <br />laws, and place fair housing advertisements in the local newspapers. <br />22 <br />
