BD~Ic 7 "rAGE 288 <br />Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System hereby agrees tv <br />entend the privileges and rights of the death benefit described <br />in subsection (1) of G.S. 128-27 to the employees of the Hyconeeehe <br />Regional Library who are members of said System on and after the <br />above effective date. This Agreement shall continue in effect <br />from year to year with the understanding that the rate payable for <br />this death benefit may be modified as the System's Actuary may <br />periodically determine. <br />Approval of the above increase in rate was authorized by <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners at its meeting on June 9, <br />1970, and is recorded in the minutes of said Board. <br />Hurch Compton introducted Dr. Sarah Dent, Commander Of the Orange County <br />Rescue Squad. Dr. Dent reported on the 1969-70 program of the Rescue Squad. She <br />stated that the Rescue Squad wished to file a budget request of 58,SOO.DO. This <br />money would be used for the purpose of acquiring a two-way radio cpmmunication <br />system for the Squad vehicles. The Hoard received the budget request. <br />The County Administrator advised the Board that the Research Triangle Regional <br />Planning Commission had requested an additional appropriation of 51,475.50 as the <br />anticipated Federal funding would not be allocated until after July 1, 1970. He <br />stated that any monies allocated to the Regional Planning Commission could be <br />deducted from the 1970-71 budget request. Discussion ensued. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Ward, it was <br />moved and adopted that 51,475.50 be appropriated from the Contingency Fund, to the <br />Research Triangle Regional Planning Commission and that the deduction of the smoun* <br />would be taken from the 1970-71 budget. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, June 16, 1970, at 8 o'clock P.M. in the <br />Commissioners Room of the Courthouse. <br />Carl M. Gatos, Acting Clerk <br />MINUTES OF THE ORANG£ COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIDNERS <br />The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session at <br />the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina, in the Commissioners Room at <br />B o'clock P.M. on Tuesday, June 16, 1970. <br />Members Present: Chairman Carl M. Smith and Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />Ira A. Ward, Henry 5. Walker and William C. Ray. <br />Members Absent: None <br />This meeting was held for the purpose of reviewing the proposed 1970-71 budget. <br />Marshall Cates, Chairman of the County Hoard of Election, presented the budget <br />request for the Election Board. Mr. Cates sited the progress which the Election <br />Board had made with the loose-leaf system and the permanent registration system. <br />M. D. Drum, Chief Probation Council for the District Court, advised the Board <br />that the County of Orange did not currently have the minimum detention facilities <br />which are prescribed by law. He suggested that an application could be filed <br />jointly by Orange, Chatham and Alamance Counties with the Governor's Law and Drder <br />Committee for the purpose of conducting a feasibility study relative to the construction <br />and operation of a juvenile detention center for the three counties. Mr. Drum stated <br />that the feasibility study would cost approximately 510,000.00 and that the cost <br />could be divided as follows: Chatham County-5800.00; Orange County-51,200.00; and <br />Alamance County-52,000.00. The additional cost of 56,000.00 could be provided through <br />funds available under the'Ominous Crime Bill. <br />Sher;PP•C. D. Knight stated that the present •j ail was inadaquate for the housing <br />of female prisoners and juvenile offenders. Commissioner Bennett reported tb the <br />Hoard that he had attended a meeting in Alamance County relative to the need for a <br />juvenile detention center. Discussion ensued. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Hennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was <br />moved and adopted that Orange County include 51,200.00 in its proposed 1970-71 <br />budget for their portion of assisting in the payment of the feasibility study of <br />the juvenile detention Center. <br />SheriFp' Knight presented the proposed 1970-71 budget for his department. The <br />budget request included the employment of two additional deputies. He explained <br />that these men would work full time with the present Drug Control Squad. He stated <br />that this squad would be composed of five men. The allocation of this squad would <br />be as follows: two men from the county; two men from the Town of Chapel Hill; one <br />man from the Town of Carrboro.
