Goal Initiated/Proposed By; Board .of County Commissioners Most Recent Version Adopted by BOCC: New Goal The Land Use Element of the Orange County Comprehensive Plan (as amended) was adopted in September 1981 with a 20 year planning horizon. Beginning work on a new plan early in FY 1999 -2000 will allow time to prepare the plan and pursue adoption in the latter part of 2001. Besides the 20 year time line, events coalescing in favor of a new plan at this time include: the upcoming Year 2000 Census; the availability of GIS technology to prepare maps and perform spatial analysis; the completion of the Shaping Orange County's Future initiative; and new leadership in the Planning Department. As part of the Comprehensive Plan, area plans may be prepared which focus on a portion of the County such as a township, a watershed or an interstate highway interchange. Likewise, technical information and/or task force reports prepared as part of a plan element or an area plan may be incorporated as part of the appendix of or as a supplement to the Comprehensive Plan. Completion of this goal will involve the following commitment of existing and approved staff resources; Planning Director, Comprehensive Planning Supervisor, Planner II(s) in Comprehensive Planning, Planning GIS Coordinator, and Planning Interns.
