~a <br />Outside Agency Descriptions -continued <br />Dispute Settlement Center <br />This agency promotes and brings about peaceful settlement of disputes and prevents the <br />escalation of conflict through mediation, facilitation, conciliation, and training. <br />Duke Community Hospice Services (formerly Triangle Hospice) <br />This grant will serve the terminally ill and their families in Orange County. The Hospice provides <br />medical, psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement care for the terminally ill and their loved ones. <br />EI Centro Latino <br />EI Centro Latino offers services to meet the needs of the Latino community in a culturally <br />appropriate and pro-active manner. These include, overcoming language and transportation <br />barriers, isolation, legal issues, educational issues, access to services and assistance to <br />individuals who are not eligible for social services. <br />EmPOWERment, Inc. <br />EmPOWERment will employ and supervise a Property Manager for five local nonprofits <br />concerned with providing affordable rental housing to low-income residents. The new position <br />will manage 58 rental units for the Affordable Rentals Group (EmPOWERment, Inc., Orange <br />Community Land and Housing Trust, Chrysalis Foundation, Affordable Rentals, Inc, and Habitat <br />for Humanity). <br />Family Counseling Services <br />The grant will fund a 26-week offender treatment program for domestic violence offenders. This <br />program entitle CHANGE, includes highly structured educational groups as well as case <br />management services and coordination between the courts, probation and victims. <br />Family Violence Prevention Center <br />The Family Violence Prevention Center seeks to prevent and end family violence through <br />community education and provision of direct services including emergency assistance, case <br />management and court advocacy. <br />Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina <br />This agency provides regularly scheduled distribution and delivery of nutritious food, including <br />fresh produce and high-quality high-protein meats, to seven Food Bank partner agencies in <br />Orange County serving low-income individuals. <br />Freedom House <br />This agency provides extended care and transitional living in order to promote recovery from the <br />disease of addiction. The goal of the Freedom House is to help alcoholics and drug addicts by <br />providing the tools necessary to lead a life of recovery and to become productive members of <br />society. <br />Page3of8 <br />
