ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: November 3, 1999
i
Action Agenda
Item No. ~g-
SUBJECT: Resolution of Support for Site of EI Centro Latino de Orange County
DEPARTMENT: Human Rights and Relations PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Resolution
Annette M. Moore, ext. 2254
.TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 968-4501
Durham 688-7331
Mebane 336-227-2031
PURPOSE: To consider the adoption of a resolution to support the EI Centro Latino de Orange
County (Hispanic Center of Orange County) request to Centura and Triangle Banks for a site at
either the Triangle Bank located at 505 W. Main Street, or the Centura Bank located at 300
Weaver Street in Carrboro.
BACKGROUND: Triangle and Centura Banks have proposed a merger. As a result of that
merger one of the two above-mentioned bank locations may be closing. In anticipation of that
occurrence, EI Centro Latino de Orange County asked the banks, as a part of their continuing
and affirmative commitment to the communities in which they are chartered, to donate one of
the locations to EI Centro Latino de Orange County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None on Orange County government.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the resolution of
support for EI Centro Latino's request, and authorize the Chair to sign the resolution.
