ATTACHMENT 2 7 <br />DURHAM <br />CHAPEL HILL CARRBORO <br />METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION <br />TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM PROJECT REQUEST <br />Proiect Title: US 70 Bypass Widening <br />Estimated Cost: Unknown <br />Requesting Agency. Orange County <br />Proiect Description: Widen US 70 Bypass from the intersection of US 70 <br />Business to the US 70 -185 Connector to a four -lane <br />divided section with bicycle and pedestrian facilities. <br />Project Justification: US 70 Bypass is a major thoroughfare projected to be <br />over capacity during the design period (2020). The <br />intersection of US 70 Bypass at NC 86 is listed as a high <br />accident location (Hillsborough Transportation Plan) <br />having an average of 32 accidents per year for the period <br />from 4/92 to 4/95 — the highest accident intersection <br />within the highest accident frequency within the <br />Hillsborough planning area.
