ATTACHMENT 1 -1 <br />C &D Related Projects by Triangle J Council of Governments <br />Prepared by Judy Kincaid, Solid Waste Projects Director, TJ COG, October 1999 <br />* Produced WasteSpec: Model Specifications for Construction Waste <br />Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling, an award- winning, comprehensive manual <br />for architects and engineers. <br />* Produced ten case studies of construction projects from around <br />the United States that successfully used the WasteSpec manual without <br />increasing project cost. <br />* Produced a guide to construction and demolition waste recycling <br />and disposal sites in the Triangle region, including a map. <br />* Partnered on the production of an instructional video on taking <br />down old buildings and salvaging the materials for reuse. <br />* Produced a state - funded project to study construction and <br />demolition waste reduction strategies in four Triangle counties. <br />* Conducted a field study illustrating the cost equivalence of <br />recycling versus not recycling on a residential construction site in <br />Durham. <br />* Initiated a study conducted by the National Association of Home <br />Builders Research Center on reducing residential remodeling waste. <br />* Assisted with the production of a 12- minute video in Spanish and <br />English aimed at giving construction workers basic information on how <br />and why their waste should be reduced and recycled. <br />* Organized a site visit to Wilmington for Triangle entrepreneurs <br />to learn about the economics and practicalities of starting a <br />construction site clean-up and recycling business, which had been <br />established for Wilmington contractors. <br />* Organized, with the Wake County Solid Waste Management Division, <br />a day -long workshop on green building for architects who design local <br />government buildings in Wake County. <br />
