Lands Legacy Action Plan (2008-2010)
between Larids Legacy acquisition efforts and future development approvals through
the Planning Department will be needed.
If the Board is interested in beginning the task in the current two-year action plan,
staff suggests the following:
• Consideration of the planned MST trail corridor (primary and alternate routes).
• Approval and identification of the official Mountains-to Sea-Trail(s) through
County jurisdiction, to be-shown on adopted conservation and land use plans
and incorporated in the Orange County Comprehensive Plan. This will enable
preservation of the corridor as development occurs and as conservation
opportunities arise.
• Focusing initial Lands Legacy Program activity on two segments of the
primary trail (if this route is confirmed) -Segment 1 (from the Haw River to
the OWASA Cane Creek Reservoir lands) and Segment 3 (Sevenmile Creek
.Preserve to Occoneechee Mountain) as Phase 1, pursuing State grant funds
at every occasion.
