Gottis, Acting Clerk <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <br />MINUTES OF THE CRAM E CCLT7TY <br />BCARD CF CCP•-U-MSICNERS <br />September 11, 1969 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the District <br />Courtroom of the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough, :forth Carolina at 7:15 <br />o'clock 2.21=, on Thursday, September 11, 1969. <br />lYiembers Present: Chairman Carl M. Smith, and Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />William C. Pay, Henry S. 'Talker and Ira A. Ward. <br />1;embers Absent* : None <br />Dr. 0. D. Garvin, District Health Director, Dr. Woods, Assistant Health Director, <br />and Paul Alston, Joint Orange-Chatham Community Yction 3xecutive Director, were <br />present and discussed with the Board of Commissioners the possibility of Orange <br />County becoming involved with the University of North Carolina Medical School, North <br />Carolina Llemorial Hospital, the County Community Action Agency and the Federal <br />Government in a "Comprehensive Health Program". This program would be funded by <br />federal agencies and at this time, of course, is only in its planning state. <br />Discussion ensued. The Board requested that when additional information was <br />available that said information be presented. <br />Chairman Smith read a letter of resignation from Bill Ivey, a county appointee <br />to the Chapel bill Board of Adjustments. This resignation was accepted with regrets. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, it was moved that, Robert H. Frey of Old <br />Lystra Road, Chapel [fill, Borth Carolina, be appointed to fill Mr. Ivey's unexpired <br />term on the Chapel Hill Board of Adjustments. <br />The place of meeting was then moved to the Superior Courtroom for the purpose <br />of discussing the Local Option Sales Tax Referendum. <br />Chairman Smith called the meeting to order and explained the purpose of the <br />meeting. Chairman Smith turned the chair over to Vice Chairman Walker and explained <br />that he must leave the meeting. Vice Chairman Y;alker conducted the remainder of the <br />meeting. Discussion ensued relative to the Sales Tax Referendum Election. It was <br />decided that the Board would appoint a steering committee to formulate and to <br />organize plans for said election. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again on Monday, September 15, 1969. <br />Carl M.
