BOCK . .,7 PAGE 225 <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner 'Nalker, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted that the following resolution be adopted: <br />RESOLUTION TO ENTER AGREEMENT FOR <br />NCRTF CAROLINA LOCAL GOVERMENTAL EI?PLCYEES' RETIRr_21NT SYSTEM <br />TO PROVIDE E;rPLOYEE DEATH BENEFITS <br />WHEREAS, the 1969 General Assembly amended the North-Carolina Local <br />_ Governmental Employees' Retirement System laws so as Co permit agreements for <br />providing death benefits for employee members pursuant to G. S. 128-27(1); and <br />7,SEREAS, the governing body of this Unit realizes the desirability of <br />providing its employees with the security and protection provided by a plan for <br />death benefits; and <br />WHEREAS, Article 3 of Chapter 128 of the General Statutes of North Carolina <br />provides that any employer governmental unit desiring to provide death benefits <br />for its employee members must execute an agreement therefor with the Director of <br />the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System: <br />NCIAT, MREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIM Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />in regular session, <br />1. That the Orange County Board of Commissioners hereby elects to secure <br />death benefits for its employees in the North Carolina Local Governmental <br />Employees' Retirement System. <br />2. That the Orange County Board of Commissioners hereby agrees to comply <br />with all provisions of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retire- <br />ment System as defined in Article 3, Chapter 128 of the General Statutes of <br />North Carolina, as amended, and to make such increased employer's contributions <br />as the Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System may determine to be <br />necessary in order to provide employee death benefits <br />3. That the Orange County Board of Commissioners is hereby ordered and <br />directed to execute an agreement with the Director of the North Carolina Local <br />Governmental Employees' Retirement System to implement the employee death <br />benefits of G. S. 128-27(1). <br />Tom Ward, Director of Social Services, presented the following kid to the <br />Blind Agenda and Chairman Smith was authorized to sign same: <br />AID TO THE BLIND AGENDA <br />September 2, 1969 <br />MANE y"NF. DATE REVISION REASON <br />Joe Mason Oct. 1, 1969 $95 to :88 Contributions from relatives <br />Sophonia Sykes Oct. 1, 1969 $86 to 9"82 Decreased medical expenses <br />Chairman Smith advised the Board that Jerry Elliott, Director of Information <br />for the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, would be publishing <br />a four page printed periodical which would be mailed to the Association members. <br />L_r. Elliott requested that the Orange County Board of Commissioners appoint some- <br />one who would be responsible for advising his office of the events occurring <br />in the County. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted, that the clerk to the Board was requested to <br />forward to Jerry Elliott items of interest. <br />Chairman Smith read a letter from Clarence Jones which advised the Board <br />that airs. Dorothy Efland of Efland, North Carolina and Joe Pope of Cedar :rove, <br />North Carolina had resigned as members of the Human Relations Council. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner ':Walker, seconded by Commissioner Ward, Mrs. <br />r- Van L. Kenyon of Route 2, Hillsborough, North Carolina, Hugh Wilson of Route 3, <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina and Remus Smith, Tr., of Mitchell Street, were <br />named as members of the Orange County Human Relations Council and Marion Clark <br />of Ruffin Street, Hillsborough, North Carolina, was named as an alternate <br />appointee should either of the three persons previously appointed declinee to <br />serve on said council. <br />Chairman Smith advised the Board that there were two vacancies on the Health <br />Planning Council which should be filled and that one vacancy on the Chapel Hill. <br />Board of Adjustments and one vacancy for the alternate member on the County <br />Flanning Board. <br />
