This piece of <br /> property is owned by Orange County. This is on Caldwell St. Ext. The CHCCS has conducted <br /> an assessment of long-term space facility needs. There arose an urgent need to look at <br /> another elementary school, #11. The group looked at a number of sites available, and out of <br /> that group, the Northside site was preferred. One of the reasons it was preferred was the <br /> expediency in bringing it forward through the regulatory process. There is currently no County <br /> operation at this site other than the Community School for People under Six, the JOCCA <br /> offices, and KidsCope. The community school is exploring other options for locations. <br /> Pam Hemminger, Chair of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board, said that the school <br /> board is very pleased to be locating the elementary school at this site. The plan is to preserve <br /> the history of this site and make it a community school. She said that they are working with the <br /> preschool to find another location. The building will have to be taken down for asbestos and <br /> other reasons, but the history of the site will be preserved. <br /> Commissioner Foushee said that she is in support of this for several reasons. She is a <br /> former Northside student. It has always been a goal of hers to see Northside and Lincoln <br />
