Bid Award: Transportable Bleachers
The Board considered awarding a bid for a pair of transportable bleachers for the West
Ten Soccer Complex to Charron Sports of Liberty, South Carolina for a total cost of$33,656
and authorizing the Purchasing Director to execute the necessary paperwork.
Chair Jacobs said that there was a question about delaying the opening of the West Ten
Soccer Complex. The proposal is August of 2009. He asked why bleachers would be needed
more than a year in advance.
Parks and Recreation Director Lori Taft said that the bleachers could be deferred, but
they may cost more next year.
Chair Jacobs asked if the bleachers could be used anyplace else for a year. Lori Taft
said that they are difficult to transport, but they could be used at other sites.
Laura Blackmon said that staff could check to see if the purchase could be delayed for
the same price.
A motion was made by Chair Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to defer
approval and let staff examine how long the price will last.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS
n. Authorization to Award Bid: Construction of Leachate Sewer Line from
MSW Landfill on Eubanks Rd. to Existing Sewer Line on Mill House Rd.
The Board considered authorizing the Purchasing and Central Services Director to
award a bid for the construction of a sewer line, during the Board's summer break and to report
the outcome in August 2008.
Chair Jacobs said that there have been complaints recently about odors near the landfill
and one of the responses from Gayle Wilson was that part of it was leachate. He thinks that
this is an expedited process to try and get the sewer line installed in the summer. This is an
example of how the County is trying to be responsive to the public's concerns.
A motion was made by Chair Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Carey to authorize
the Purchasing and Central Services Director to award a bid for the construction of a sewer line
during the Board's summer break and to report the outcome in August 2008.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS
Web Template Contract
The Board considered signing a contract with Kelly Marcom of Sanford, NC to develop
templates for the Orange County website and authorizing the County Manager to execute the
contract, pending final review by staff and the County Attorney.
Commissioner Gordon made reference to page 4 of the contract and that the rate is
listed as $XX.
