To get to a 4.9-cent tax increase, approximately $280,000 more in cuts is needed. A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Foushee to share cuts fairly between all of the stakeholders and apply $400,000 to reducing the schools' allocation, in addition to the $660,000 for salaries. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Special District Tax Donna Coffey said that the recommended tax rate is 23 cents per$100.
