57 <br />Attachment 8.4.6 <br />CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />Established in 1909, ~e Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools CHCCS ~Bi-strict <br />provides educational services to school-age residents of the two Towns and <br />some unincorporated areas near the Towns. The district operates three high <br />schools, four middle schools, a-~ ten elementary schools a school for young <br />people being treated at UNC Hospital and an alternative program for high school <br />students. The school district ' updates its <br />strategic plan regularly <br />ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />The Orange County School District provides public education services to student- <br />age residents of Hillsborough, the portion of Mebane that lies in Orange County, <br />and most of the unincorporated areas of the County. It operates seven <br />elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools, and an <br />alternative school. Orange County Schools has a projected enrollment of 7,000 <br />students for the 2008-2009 school year. Board approved capital improvements <br />for fiscal year 2007-2008 include over $2 million of improvements to existing <br />facilities; including maintenance of heating and cooling systems, bathrooms, <br />updating health and safety features, and improving athletic facilities' <br />.
