1.56
Tom Alfieri
From: Dara D. Mendez [ddhall@email.unc.edu]
Sent: Monday, May 19, 2008 4:39 PM
To:~ CompPlanUpdate
Subject: The Orange Counfy Comprehensive Plan
~,
ATT2294141.htm
(14 KB)
Dear Comprehensive Plan Coordinators,
I, Dara Mendez, request that the Orange County Comprehensive Plan include specific plans
and recommendations for solutions to the issues raised by the Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood
Association (RENA) and the Coalition to End Environmental Racism (CEER). The Rogers-
Eubanks communities are vital to the development of Orange County and have been forced to
live with a landfill that collects the gargage of ALL. Orange County residents.
The community would like remedies for the following issues:
1) Ending the 35 year burden of hosting of solid waste facilities by the Rogers-Eubanks
neighborhood;
2) Providing funding for provision of safe, public, regulated drinking water and sewer
service to all households in the Rogers-Eubanks neighborhood;
3) Providing funding for other basic municipal services to residents of the Rogers-Eubanks
neighborhood including, but not limited to paved roads, paved sidewalks, stormwater
drains, street lights, public bus service (including covered bus s.tops), emergency
protection services (i.e., fire, police protection, .ambulatory and rescue squad).
As a resident of Chapel Hill as well as a public health activist, it is important that the
needs and concerns of this community are implemented into a plan that should be
comprehensive. In Orange County's attempts to create a comnprehensive plan, this plan
should not exclude any community but should treat all communities equally.
Sincerely,
Dara Mendez
Dara D.
