We recognize the importance of walkable communities for improving individual
health, community health, environmental health and economic wellbeing for Hillsborough residents, for
surrounding communities, and especially for our Orange County school children. Some of ourvolunteer
work has included co-sponsoring an annual Walkable Hillsborough Day in June for the past five years
with the Town of Hillsborough, as well as applying for Active living by Design and Fit Communities
grants to seek funds and support for pedestrian-first communities and walkable schools. NCDOT has
referred to WaHC as the first pedestrian-only advocacy group Jn North Carolina.
WaHC supports the CPU Coalition's efforts to have the CPU reflect our organization's interest far new
and appropriate existing development to be compact, walkable, mixed-use and transit supportive.
