198 <br />The property of Amity Methodist Church, located at the southeast <br />corner of Airport Road and Estes Drive, comprising eight acres, and <br />more particularly described as Lot 12, Tax Map 29. <br />We, respectfully request that your honorable Boards approve this <br />recommendation, in order that, upon such approval, the territory of the <br />District be enlarged, as provided in the cited statute, to include the <br />above-described territory. <br />We further request that, upon such approval, the Board of County <br />Commissioners levy the fire-protection district tax upon the property <br />included in this territory in the fiscal year next following after such <br />approval, and that the Board of Aldermen furnish fire protection to the <br />territory immediately upon such approval in the same fashion as it now <br />protects property in the present District, under contract of September <br />10, 1956. <br />April 28, 1969 <br />/s/ J. Merritt <br />Co ssioner <br />Chairman Smith read a letter from the Kiwanis Club which requested <br />permission to hold a fireworks display in the athletic area of the University <br />of North Carolina on July 4, 1969. <br />Chairman Smith advised the Board that the Church of the Holy Family <br />requested permission to hold a fireworks display sometime the latter part <br />of May. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, <br />permission was granted to the Kiwanis Club and the Church of the Holy Family <br />to hold a fireworks display provided that the display was supervised by the <br />Chapel Hill. Fire Department. <br />Chairman Smith presented the following letters: <br />Letter of resignation from Gene Jackson, Assistant Agriculture <br />Extension Agent effective May 31, 1969. <br />Letter of resignation from Anne H. Sawyer, Secretary in the Home <br />Economics Office effective May 2, 1969. <br />Letter from Hugh Morton, Chairman Right to Vote Committee, in <br />support of mixed beverages in North Carolina. <br />Letter from Roy A. Stevens, President of the Travel Council of <br />North Carolina, Inc. <br />Commissioner Bennett filed road petition for road designated as SR 1725. <br />The clerk was instructed to forward same to the State Highway Commission. <br />The clerk was instructed to write a letter of condolence to the family <br />of Mayor Marvin Walker. <br />The County Administrator recommended to the Board that as of June 1, 1969, <br />the office hours in the courthouse be changed from 8:45 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. to <br />6:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. He stated that this would conform the hours now being <br />(observed in the other agencies of government. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted, that the recommendation of the County Administrator <br />relative to the change in the office hours for the courthouse be approved. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, _'May:13,-1969i'Mondayi-May . 19, 1969'.and •. <br />on Monday;,'.May 26,.1969 for a public hearing. <br />Carl M.
