r <br />t -- *'t <br />2 <br />Community College Task Force <br />October 19,1999 <br />The charge to the Community College Task Force is to study and make recommendations to the <br />Board of Commissioners on the feasibility of developing a satellite campus of Durham Technical <br />Community College in Orange County that will (1) provide postsecondary education for residents <br />pursuing careers in vocational and technical fields; (2) offer residents the first two years of a <br />baccalaureate degree for professional careers; and (3) prepare residents to meet the workforce needs <br />of Orange County by offering courses in basic education and skills development. <br />The work of the committee shall include, but not be limited to, the following: <br />1. Review past reports that identified a need for technical training opportunities in the County. <br />(Orange County Skills Development Board, Economic Development Commission Strategic Plan <br />and other reports) <br />2. Inventory the current course offerings provided by DTCC at leased facilities at Chapel Hill- <br />Carrboro Schools, Orange County Schools, Skills Development Center and community <br />buildings. <br />3. Survey or conduct focus groups to identify potential course offerings desired by high school <br />students and citizens who need training to compete for better paying jobs. <br />4. Survey or conduct focus groups of local employers to determine course offerings needed to <br />meet the employment demand. <br />5. Identify possible short term and long term funding sources for development and sustainability of <br />a satellite campus. <br />6. Determine if a satellite campus course offering will interface with the curriculum of the local <br />public schools systems. <br />7. Identify countywide transportation needs based on possible location of the satellite campus and <br />also possible methods for meeting identified training needs in Orange County by transporting <br />students to bTCC classes in Durham County. <br />The Community College Task Force should complete the above tasks by January 31, 2000 and <br />present a report to Board of Commissioners in February 2000. <br />
