u?l ar !,tCE EJ%J <br />The Board of Commissioners adjourned in order to attend a luncheon which <br />had been scheduled at the Agricultural Building by the members of the Orange <br />County Extension Service. <br />Ed Barnes, Extension Chairman, Sherman M. Shelton, Agriculture Extension <br />Agent, Eugene A. Jackson, Assistant Agriculture Extension Agent, Mrs. Bonnie B. <br />Davis, Home Economics Extension Agent, Mrs. Fonrose J. Gore, Home Economics <br />Extension Agent and Mrs. Sara H. Sears, Associate Home Economics Extension Agent, <br />presented their annual reports. <br />Junius Grimes of the State Department of Public Welfare, Division of <br />Special Services, and Mrs, Dorothy Gamble, Orange County's Community Services <br />Consultant, were present to present the final report of the Community Services <br />Program. A copy of this report and a copy of the October 21, 1968, report were <br />filed with the clerk. Discussion ensued. <br />Mrs. Gamble requested that the orange County Board of Commissioners write <br />a letter to her stating the reasons for the termination of the Community Services <br />Consultant office and the date on which she should close said office. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it <br />was moved and adopted,that the Community Services Consultant's Program would <br />be terminated as of January 31, 1969. The clerk was instructed to forward a <br />letter to Mrs. Gamble. <br />Chairman Smith expressed his findings for the need of appointing a Human <br />Relations Council and stated the considerations which should be given to the <br />choice of proposed appointees for said council and stated further how he felt <br />the council should function and be constituted. Reverend Samuel Fudge <br />suggested that Richard Simpson, Mrs. Ruth Long and Horace Johnson could be <br />used as contacts for prospective appointees. Discussion ensued on this matter. <br />Commissioner Bennett and the County Administrator reported that no <br />decision, as to the location of the water and sewer lines for the industrial <br />park area had been reached. It was agreed that they should continue their <br />investigation and were given the authority to decide upon which route was <br />feasable. <br />The County Administrator gave the following report: <br />1. That the new Ambulance Service for the entire county began as of January <br />1, 1969. <br />2. That the proposed furnishing for an additional courtroom had been <br />discussed with Judge Phipps. <br />3. That the Sheriff's office and the Jail had been coordinated and one or <br />the other places would remain open on a twenty-four hour basis. <br />1+. Plans for the courtroom had begun and would be finalized within a few <br />weeks. <br />5. That the Board of Commissioners consider mailing the rest of the townships <br />for tax purposes. <br />The Board authorized the County Administrator to proceed with the plans for <br />furnishing and establishing of the additional courtroom and to also proceed to <br />investigate the possibilities of maping all the townships in the county. - <br />There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting adjourned. <br />Carl M.
