Based on my education, experience as an extension agent and instructor, <br />as well as regional research conducted by Vrginia Tech, the following are my <br />recommendations for number of livestock per acre: <br />Sheep: 3 adufits/acre <br />Cattle: 1 adult/acre (lcowlcalf pair requires 3-5 aches) <br />Equine:1 adult horse or donkey/2-4 acres <br />1 pony or miniature horse/acre <br />The above recommendations are based on the assumptions of excellent pasture <br />management and the provision of supplemental grain/hay as needed.
