BOOK 7 PACE 152
Therefore, I move that a copy of the above be sent to Mr. Melvin Hearn, State
Director of the Farmer's Home Administration, and to the Board of Directors of
Orange-Alamanee Water System, Inc. and that upon acceptance by Orange-Alamanee
Water System, Inc, that the above represents the understanding between them and the
Orange County Board of Commissioners that we approve the current expansion of
Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc. for which the Farmers Home Administration has
given a loan.
Commissioner Ray seconded Commissioner Smith's resolution.
Chairman Bennett asked if there was any discussion relative to Commissioner
Smiths resolution. Mayor Cates asked each of the Adlermen present if there
were any comments they wished to make. No member of the Hillsborough Board of
Aldermen expressed their approval of the proposal by the Orange-Alamance Water
System, Inc, which would extend its services to the Swepsonville area. They
expressed the opinion that the letter and agreement addressed to the Orange County
Board of Commissioners from the Orange-Alamanoe Water System, Inc, offered more
protection to the Town of Hillsborough than had been previously offered by the Orange-
Alamance Water System, Inc.
Mayor Cates stated that he was personally disappointed over the fact that
the Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc.'s proposed plan did not provide for a water
connection to the Hillsborough water system. Further discussion ensued.
Chairman Bennett called for a vote on Commissioner Smiths resolution.
Ayes: Commissioners Smith, Ray, Walker and Ward.
Noes: Chairman Bennett
Chairman Bennett declared the motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the meeting the Board adjourned
to meet again on Thursday,, November 14, 1968 at 2:30-'P.M.
Harvey D.
