expand their ability and capacity to implement teen pregnancy prevention and <br />teen parenting programs. In Orange County the overall rate of teen pregnancy is <br />20.9 per 1000 teens (15-19); the rate for Orange County Hispanic girls is 135.7 <br />pr 1000 teens. <br />Funds would be used to help underwrite the participation of partner providers <br />from Orange County in APPCNC training programs with follow up technical <br />assistance and guidance. Special effort and energies will be dedicated to <br />publishing articles, promoting trainings, and sending the message of teen <br />pregnancy prevention throughout the Hispanic community. <br />Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers (TROSA) <br />Requested: $3,000 <br />Recommended: $3,000 <br />TROSA is a highly-structured, disciplined substance abuse recovery program <br />with the mission to assist in changing lives and increasing law-abiding behavior <br />by providing a self-supporting, two-year, residential self-help community serving <br />offenders and substance abusers at no cost to the individuals. TROSA is <br />primarily funded through program-based businesses (TROSA Moving and <br />TROSA Lawn Care) and in-kind donations, with the remainder from outside <br />grants and contributions. <br />Funds would be used to help subsidize a minimum of eight (8) Orange County <br />residents' recovering from substance abuse with access to therapy, medical <br />services, educational/vocational training, and room/board. <br />In its 2007 Needs Assessment, Orange County Healthy Carolinians reported <br />Orange County survey respondents cited drug and alcohol use as the 2nd Most <br />serious health concern (1St being lack of health insurance). Lack of residential <br />services and detoxification was a perceived or expressed need by the <br />community. Evidence supports investment in TROSA would save local dollars by <br />eliminating costs of detention and incarceration and emergency room visits.' <br />County support is especially needed as TROSA business programs grapple with <br />rapidly rising fuel costs and reduced demand for lawn care due to the continuing <br />drought. <br />El Futuro <br />Requested: $60,000 <br />,Recommended: $60,000 <br />El Futuro, founded in 2004, is a pioneer agency addressing the behavioral health <br />needs of North Carolina's Latino community by promoting behavioral health <br />awareness, enhancing existing services, and developing a model, bi-lingual, <br />culturally-competent clinic.
