This designation means <br />that ozone levels in the area exceeded federal standards over a three-year period, and <br />that regulatory measures have to be taken to reduce these levels and improve air <br />quality. Many car-owners in Orange County have addressed this need to decrease air <br />emissions and reduce the use of non-renewable resources by purchasing alternative fuel <br />vehicles. As of 2003, there were 141 registered hybrid vehicles in Orange County.
