1 ~~ <br />"1'he Village 1'rc~}c:ct Comments an the Orange (:o~x.nty Con~prehe~~sive flan L:Ipdate Draft 2 <br />The County has established Economic <br />Development Districts wherein public <br />investment will be focused to stimulate and <br />accommodate development in strategic <br />locations that can be served by transportation <br />systems and public infrastructure, and be <br />convenient to housing opportunities. <br />The County's Economic Development <br />Commission works with local, regional and <br />state governments and agencies to attract and <br />promote the types of businesses suited to <br />Orange County. Focus on these efforts is <br />recruiting appropriate businesses that will <br />provide jobs to local residents and provide a <br />more balanced tax revenue structure that <br />relies less on the generation of private <br />property taxes. <br />The County and Economic Development <br />Commission have identified Action Steps in <br />the report: "Investing in Innovation: Orange <br />County Economic Development Commission <br />Five-Year Strategic Plan." <br />To meet the demand for locally grown <br />products, the County is working with <br />Alamance, Chatham, and Durham Counties <br />environmental realities, local development <br />efforts should emphasize: 1) green-collar <br />jobs and businesses including green refits <br />and upgrades, renewable energy capacity <br />and distribution, green building, and <br />innovative water capture and reuse; and 2) <br />brain-based, information age, and <br />knowledge ecology jobs that include all <br />forms ofhigh-value, innovative enterprises <br />ranging from high-tech innovators such as <br />Red Hat to community-serving investment <br />services such as Self-Help. <br />The County has established Economic <br />Development Districts wherein public <br />investment will be focused to stimulate and <br />accommodate development in strategic <br />locations that can be served by transportation <br />systems and public infrastructure, and be <br />conveniently <br />integrated with housing and efficiently <br />concentrated local services. <br />The County Economic Development <br />Commission currently works with local, <br />regional and state governments and agencies <br />to recruit the types of <br />businesses she that help fulfill Orange <br />County goals.
