ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: August 19, 2008 <br />Action Age da <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Northern Park: Approval of Field Lighting Change Order <br />DEPARTMENT: Purchasing PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Pam Jones, 919-245-2652 <br />Lori Taft, 919-245-2673 <br />PURPOSE: To consider authorizing the County Manager to execute a change order for the <br />field lighting to be installed at Northern Park. <br />BACKGROUND: In June 2007, the Board awarded the Northern Park Phase I contract to <br />Faulconer Construction in the amount of $1,427,281. This contract amount did not include the <br />designed playing surface lighting system. The overall project budget of $1,848,000 did <br />contemplate purchase and installation of this lighting system, contingent on beginning <br />construction and determining if sub-surface conditions (and the potential remediation of these <br />conditions) warranted budgeted funds. These soils remediation contingencies did not <br />materialize and the funds are available for the field lighting component. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The cost of the field lighting .change order is $128,600. Funding is <br />available within the project budget to support the expense. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize a change order <br />for lighting in the amount of $128,600; and authorize the Manager to execute this and future <br />change orders, as may be needed, to the extent of the capital project ordinance. <br />
