I DRAFT MINUTES <br />2 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />3 REGULAR MEETING <br />4 May 1, 2008 <br />5 7:30 p.m. <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Thursday, May 1, <br />9 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill North Carolina. <br />10 <br />11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Barry Jacobs and Commissioners <br />12 Valerie P. Foushee, and Alice M. Gordon <br />13 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Nelson and Commissioner Carey <br />14 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br />15 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager. Laura Blackmon, Assistant County <br />16 Managers Willie Best and Gwen Harvey, and Clerk to the Board Donna S. Baker (All other staff <br />17 members will be identified appropriately below) <br />18 <br />19 NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE PERMANENT <br />20 AGENDA FILE IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE. <br />21 <br />22 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br />23 Chair Jacobs said that there is one change to the agenda, which is a resolution to <br />24 Foster Genocide Remembrance, item 3 -a -1. The Board agreed to add this item. <br />25 <br />26 PUBLIC CHARGE <br />27 <br />28 The Chair dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br />29 <br />30 2. Public Comments <br />31 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br />32 <br />33 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br />34 (These matters were considered when the Board addressed that item on the agenda <br />35 below.) <br />36 <br />37 3. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations <br />38 a. National Historic Preservation Month <br />39 The Board considered proclaiming May 2008 as National Historic Preservation Month in <br />40 Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />41 Environment and Conservation Director David Stancil introduced this item and <br />42 introduced Chair of the Historic Preservation Commission, Tom Allison. He said that the theme <br />43 this year is, "This Place Matters." He listed the activities of National Historic Preservation <br />44 Month. <br />45 Tom Allison read the Proclamation and spoke about the recent photography contest <br />46 called, "Heritage Corridors." <br />47 A motion was made by Commissioner Foushee, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to <br />48 approve proclaiming May 2008 as National Historic Preservation Month in Orange County and <br />49 authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />50 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />
