A. Alley:
"We have made preliminary studies of the proposed extensions to the water
distribution and sewage collection systems recently installed by the County to
serve the industrial park east of Mebane and herewith present our findings. The
unit prices used in the following cost estimates are taken from the County's
contract with Dixie Plumbing Company where such prices were applicable. Where
units of work are not covered in the aforementioned contract, we have used unit
prices that we feel are reasonable and in line with the contract prices. We have
identified the items where these prices have been used with an asterisk.
The first study covered the installation of water and sewer mains to serve
the area in the vicinity of Melville Furniture Company's proposed plant on South
Center Street. It is proposed here that the water and sewer mains be installed
from the ends of the existing mains in the Access Road near the southeast corner
of the Piedmont Steel & Tube Co. property, directly north to Center Street. As
these lines would not be installed in a public road or street, it will be necessary
to acquire a right-of-way easement. This easement should be at least 25 feet wide.
With the two pipelines at least 5 feet apart, this width easement will provide 10
feet from the center of each pipe to the outer boundary of the easement. A 30 foot
wide easement is more desirable as this width would provide more working room and it
would also allow the installation of the two pipes 10 feet apart.
The following breakdown gives a detailed cost estimate for this proposed
installation:
A.
